When and why did people start living in cities?
Up until about 3000 BC, less than 1 percent of people lived in urban areas. The first cities were established in Mesopotamia, The Nile River, Mesoamerica, and Asia. These first cities were not that big. It was not until after the start of the Industrial Revolution began in the mid-1700s in Great Britain that urbanization exploded. Human communities have existed for over 100,000 years, but more than 90,000 years passed before people began to clutter in towns and create the first cities. It has only been 200 years sense cities have began to resemble what they are today.
